This volume is an invitation into the work that materialised in the frame of the exhibition “Branching Streams–Sketches of Kinship” (Musée Théodore Monod d’Art africain in Dakar, Senegal, May to September 2024), bringing together research and visual documentation. Elaborated collaboratively over a period of three and a half years by a team in diferent countries in Africa and Europe, the exhibition brought together scholars and artists across languages and disciplines. As a collection of a plurality of positions and their articulations, this work reveals some of the constellations of thought, making and imagination that emerged from our thinking and practising beyond the museum. The diferent ideas presented here address the complexities of confronting enduring colonialities, whilst also ofering gestures of what might be possible through gathering, thinking and making together, across distance, and space and forms of imaginative practice. Transformative practice unfolds in collective labour.
Cet ouvrage est une invitation à découvrir le travail qui s’est concrétisé dans le cadre de l’exposition « Branching Streams–Sketches of Kinship » (musée Théodore Monod d’Art africain à Dakar, Sénégal, mai à septembre 2024), réunissant recherches et documentation visuelle. Élaborée en collaboration pendant trois ans et demi par une équipe répartie dans diférents pays d’Afrique et d’Europe, l’exposition a réuni des universitaires et des artistes de diférentes langues et disciplines. En tant que recueil d’une pluralité de positions et de leurs articulations, cet ouvrage révèle certaines des constellations de pensée, de création et d’imagination qui ont émergé de notre réfexion et de notre pratique au-delà du musée. Les diférentes idées présentées ici abordent la complexité de la confrontation avec les colonialités persistantes, tout en ofrant des pistes sur ce qui pourrait être possible grâce au rassemblement, à la réfexion et à la création communes, à travers la distance, l’espace et les formes de pratique imaginative. La pratique transformatrice se déploie dans le travail collectif.
