On the 30th of April, we will present our re-edition of Uche Okeke's influential book Art in Development- A Nigerian Perspective with a book launch in Lagos.
The carefully edited and designed edition present the essence of Uche Okeke's work, his thoughts on the role of art in society - his creative and intellectual journey. Ijeoma Loren Uche-Okeke, his daughter, proudly states in the preface of the book:
Uche Okeke was a multi-faceted, multi-talented man who was ahead of his time, a deeply intellectual and highly intelligent man. A visionary on many levels, who believed in the greater good and the power of community.
It is symbolic that Art in Development – A Nigerian Perspective is now re-printed by iwalewabooks, a young and independent publisher based in Bayreuth/Germany. This project is apt, given the long-term relationship Uche Okeke had with Germany and especially with Georgina and Ulli Beier. A number of his artworks are part of the collection of Iwalewahaus in Bayreuth, Germany.
